CFP: Countering Contingency: Teaching, Scholarship, and Creativity in the Age of the Adjunct

Countering Contingency: Teaching, Scholarship, and Creativity in the Age of the Adjunct is an academic conference being organized by NTT faculty (or adjunct) members from various colleges and universities.

As the Adjunct Faculty Association’s organizing effort at Duquesne University gained publicity in the Pittsburgh area, calls started cccoming in from NTT faculty members working at a number of higher education institutions. Several of them met with organizers from the USW and decided to plan a conference that would open up dialogue about the casualization of the academic workforce.

We received proposals for papers, panels, workshops, roundtables and creative presentations highlighting, critiquing and theorizing how the unstable and unsustainable working conditions of NTT faculty impact intellectual work; narrowing or analyzing the logistical challenges of serving as NTT teachers, scholars and artists; and discussing the working conditions that call for revision.  You can see our exciting schedule of presentations and events here.

The conference has been set for April 5-7, 2013. We hope you’ll join us there!
